What We Do

Break Away encourages survivors of intimate partner violence to take charge of their life by providing them with safety and resources to assure their self-sufficiency. Domestic violence is defined as any pattern of actions used to dominate and intimidate a partner or family member through fear, manipulation, isolation, financial abuse, physical abuse, sexual assault, and/or verbal abuse.

Mental Health

The psychological impact of domestic violence and sexual abuse can be detrimental. Psychological abuse exacerbates the pain of physical and sexual assault, and several studies have shown that psychological abuse causes long-term mental health harm to a victim. Depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, suicidal thoughts, low self-esteem, and difficulties trusting people are common symptoms of psychological abuse.

Wellness and Education

We believe that knowledge is power. We educate via webinars, seminars, and community outreach to educate individuals about mental health, wellness, healthy relationships and raise awareness to intimate partner violence.
